Flame-retardant epoxy resins and how brominated systems earn their fire ratings
Standard epoxy burns. Once cured, an unmodified bisphenol A epoxy has a Limiting Oxygen Index of around 19 to 20, which means normal air holds more than enough oxygen to keep it alight. That is a problem when the same resin sits inside a circuit board, a cable tray coating, or a structural adhesive holding a facade panel in place.
